Millions of
young children in the United States are cared for daily by someone
other than their parents, and a growing number are cared for in
child-care centers. This research and policy brief, a quarterly
synthesis of issues addressed by investigators and affiliates of
the National Center for Early Development & Learning, focuses
on quality in child care centers. The brief addresses issues such
as: (1) What is quality and how can it be measured?; (2) How good
is the quality of child care programs in the United States today?;
and (3) What do we know about the relationships between quality
of child care and outcomes for children? The brief also includes
sections on additional research questions that need to be answered,
and on what policy changes are needed. The brief includes a fact
sheet on quality in child care centers, summarizing the findings
of the larger report. (EV)
