This book presents evidence that human beings possess a range of capabilities and potentials (multiple intelligences) that, both individually and together, can be put to many productive uses. Chapter 1, "Intelligence and Individuality," introduces the issue. Chapter 2, "Before Multiple Intelligences," describes the traditional scientific view of intelligence. Chapter 3, "The Theory of Multiple Intelligences: A Personal Perspective," presents the author's theory. Chapter 4, "Are There Additional Intelligences?" and chapter 5, "Is There a Moral Intelligence?" consider several new candidate intelligences. Chapter 6, "Myths and Realities about Multiple Intelligences," addresses questions and criticisms about the author's theory. Chapter 7, "Issues and Answers Regarding Multiple Intelligences," treats other controversial issues. Chapter 8, "The Intelligences of Creators and Leaders," explores relationships among intelligence, creativity, and leadership. Chapter 9, "Multiple Intelligences in the Schools," chapter 10, "Multiple Approaches to Understanding," and chapter 11,"Multiple Intelligences in the Wider World," discuss ways to apply the theory of multiple intelligences. Chapter 12, "Who Owns Intelligence?" explores answers to the question. The four appendixes present: books and articles by Howard Gardner; other works about the theory of multiple intelligences; videos, newsletters, and miscellany; and contacts on multiple intelligences theory and its applications.
