Reviews literature on Asian-American students, concluding that effective counseling for this population must include knowledge and recognition of unique cultural background. Notes need for counseling techniques adapted to students from Asian heritage: structured counseling session, gradual building of trust and rapport, nonconfrontational approach, and an initial focus on educational and career, rather than personal, concerns.
