Compared children's recall for alternative event components in spontaneous and probed recall conditions. Children four and seven years old participated in two activities in which components varied. Spontaneous and probed reports were solicited. Recall of variable elements was greater when probed than when spontaneous, especially for older children. This suggests complexity of children's event representation increases with age. (TM)
